Made From (Dutch)Scratch

Baked Goods

From Apple Tortes to Mocha Cake, and Dutch Bread to Raisin (loaded) Buns there’s lots to enjoy.

Besides our large assortment of Dutch bread and pastries we are proud of our Artisan Italian Ciabatta and crusty Milano Buns. Our German Light Rye is one of our favorite heavier breads as well.

Most of our breads are made without any additives or color, just basic, pure and fresh ingredients!

Some of our recipes were used by the ‘Sherbrooke Bakery’ for many years, others were brought into Canada more recently. What they have in common is that they’re rooted in an authentic, hand-crafted Dutch tradition which makes them just plain delicious.

History of our bakery

In 2006 my wife, Joni Koopman, and I bought the old Sherbrooke Bakery. It was originally owned by a Ukrainian baker in the 1940s, when it was on the NE side of the traffic circle. In 1961, a Dutch couple named Peter and Josephine Huppelschoten bought the bakery. In 1986, they moved it to its present location. In 2001 they sold the business to John Vrieselaar and his two sisters Jacqueline and Elizabeth.

My team and I have been happily baking here since 2006. We filled up the bread rack and pastry showcase with wholesome Dutch baked goods. We restocked the shelves with Dutch and other European imports. Then, in a fitting display of “truth-in-advertising,” we re-named the bakery “Dutch Delicious.”

Get In touch with your Dutch

Many European immigrants miss the food and culture from back home. We are a Dutch bakery and deli that stocks a large assortment of imports in an authentic European atmosphere so you can be nourished and reconnected with your roots.

We too, come from a European back ground and know what it feels like to miss a culture and those traditional foods we crave. That is why we have stocked our shelves with both the traditional as well as the latest trends in European foods. You will be reminded of Oma’s cooking and rediscover your favourite treats along with new favourites in an atmosphere that can only be described as ‘gezellig’.

At Dutch Delicious our mission is to nourish community by providing delicious baking and imports in an authentic European atmosphere.

We have a delicious array of pastries, breads and cakes all made in the hand-crafted Dutch tradition. Our breads are made fresh daily and most of them have no additives or colour, just basic, pure and fresh ingredients!

Our full service deli counter is filled with cheese imported from the Netherlands and other European countries, as well as a large selection of deli meat all of which are gluten free.

What we're all about

Dutch Delicious is a fine Dutch Bakery and European Delicatessen. However for me, Siebe, this business is about connecting with the people around me – those I work with and for. Delicious bread and unique groceries are the ingredients that get me there. Our warm, aromatic, and friendly bakery provides the “gezellig” environment that enables those connections to happen. At the end of the day Dutch Delicious is about nurturing friendships, strengthening our community and making a difference in your life and ours.
